Amos Standeford

January 6, 1925 — March 10, 2012

Amos Alexander Standeford, 87, Greeley, Colorado and formerly of Nowata, Oklahoma, died Saturday, March 10, 2012 in a Senior Living Center in Greeley. Amos was born January 6, 1925 at Alluwe, Oklahoma to Dewey and Bessie Standeford. He grew up in Alluwe, graduating high school there. Amos was a member of the U.S. Army during World War II and saw action in the Asian/Pacific Theatre and was awarded the Purple Heart for his sacrifice. On July 4, 1947, he married Bertha Lea Smith at Nowata. Amos was an oil field worker and traveled with work for many years, living in several different locales, including Colorado. He retired from Flint engineering in 1988 and moved to Nowata. Bertha preceded her husband in death on January 2, 2010 and Amos moved to Colorado to be near his son, Alan. Amos was a lifetime member of Nowata VFW Post 5742 and the American Legion. He was also a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Amos enjoyed the outdoors and loved hunting, fishing and camping. Survivors include a son, Dewey Alan Standeford and his wife, Diedra of Fort Lupton, Colorado; two brothers, Tom Standeford of Langley, Oklahoma and Bob Standeford, currently of Las Vegas, Nevada; three granddaughters, Angela Ulfers, Lisa Standeford and Rebecca Standeford and two great-grandchildren, Daphne and Kai. Amos was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and by two brothers, James and LeVan Standeford. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 16, at Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel with Ben Killion officiating. Local arrangements are by Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata.
