Anita Petty

Anita Delores Petty, 82, of Afton, Oklahoma died at 1:40 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Integris Grove General Hospital in Grove, Oklahoma. Anita was born March 11, 1927 in Grove, Oklahoma to Sam Curtis and Darcus (Fox) Scruggins. She was a life-long Grove resident. Anita graduated from Grove High School. She worked as a salesperson for Grand Lake Sports Center in Grove and Buffalo Ranch at Afton. She was a member of Hickory Grove Sunday School and the Cherokee Indian Heritage Club. Anita loved being around people, she enjoyed family gatherings and especially enjoyed her grandkids. She enjoyed sewing and helping her husband in their poultry business. On July 18, 1945, she married Charles Raymond "Pee Wee" Petty, Sr. at Grove, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on November 13, 2008. Anita was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Phyllis Kirby and Linda Petty; one brother and sister-in-law, Taft and Louise Scruggins; and three sisters, Lou Wilson, Rubye Nelson, and Elizabeth Nelson Survivors include her son, Charles R. Petty, Jr. and his wife Terry of Afton, OK; a special nephew that she helped raise, Bob Wilson of Checotah, OK; one sister, Annabelle Walker of Grove, OK; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and lots of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, Oklahoma. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, Oklahoma with Pastor Jim Hale officiating. Burial will follow in Butler Cemetery southeast of Grove. Pallbearers will be Seneca Petty, Matt Petty, Ray Kirby, Jeff Kirby, Dennis Huggins, and Bob Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Petty and Robin Kirby. The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association.
