Anita Louise Pierson

Anita Louise Pierson, 82, of Nowata, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center.

Anita was born January 23, 1941, at Baxter Springs, Kansas, to Urshel C. Miller and Maudine E. (Phillips) Miller.  She grew up in Baxter Springs and graduated from high school there.  After high school, Anita attended one year at Ozark Bible College and later moved to El Paso, Texas until 1963.  She moved to Columbus, Kansas and then to Coffeyville. Anita moved to Nowata in 1965.  

She worked as a nurses’ aide at Medicalodge of Dewey from 1969-1978.  Anita completed her LPN training at Tri-County Tech in Bartlesville and worked for Nowata General Hospital for many years. 

Anita is survived by two sons, Bobby Pierson and his wife, Shirley of Nowata and Chris Pierson of Nowata; five grandchildren; Chasity Parnell and husband, Chris of Coweta; Meredith Pierson, Daniel Pierson, Trenton Weirather and Tyler Weirather; as well as four great-grandchildren, Shaun Woods, Case Parnell, Liam Pierson and Collin Parnell. She was preceded by her parents; by a son, Mike Pierson; and by one brother, Urshel Lee Miller.

Funeral mass will be held 2pm, Friday, August 4, 2023, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Nowata with Father Leonard Higgins officiating.  Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Oologah, OK, under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service.  Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 9am-8pm, with family on hand to receive visitors from 6-8pm.
