Arnold Beatty Mahoney, longtime Ketchum resident, passed away August 7, 2024, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. Beatty was born May 25, 1943, to Arnold Jackson “AJ” and Kathryn (Beatty) Mahoney in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He grew up in Nowata where he loved sports and played them in school. Beatty also attended Boys State. After graduating from Nowata High School, he attended the University of Oklahoma where he played trumpet for The Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band.
After time at OU, Beatty entered the United States Air Force and was stationed on Guam during the Vietnam War. He married Cissy Harvey on May 2, 1970, in Dallas, Texas while working for Hensley Steel Factory. In 1995, they moved to Grand Lake so Beatty could go fishing every day. He worked at Cherokee Yacht Club for twenty years until his retirement.
During retirement, Beatty was active with the South Grand Lake Chamber of Commerce, Vinita Rotary Club, and American Legion. Earlier this year, Beatty was recognized as Volunteer of the Year for the South Grand Lake Chamber of Commerce. For the last 28 years, he and Cissy were active members of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Vinita. In addition to these great life accomplishments, Beatty was a diehard fan of the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Rangers, and the Dallas Cowboys.
Beatty is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Cissy, of Ketchum; son, Mike Mahoney of Bird Island; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Darren Barnes of Tulsa; son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Amanda Mahoney of Greensboro, North Carolina; grandsons, Brent Barnes, and Pierce and Vonla Barnes, of Tulsa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
To know Beatty was to love his wicked, dry sense of humor. He will be dearly missed.
