Benjamin Funeral Service Nowata, OK (918) 273-2700****On August 24th, 1948 a bouncing brown curly haired baby boy was born in Nowata, Ok, to the loving parents of Floyd and Shirley Thompson. This was the beginning of his life-long journey of being a middle child. During his formative years, Arvon was a fun-loving individual who was the life of the party. He was adored by his classmates, friends and family. Arvon completed his formal education while attending Lincoln High School, graduating in 1966. While a young teenager, Arvon worked for Neil Drug Store in Kansas City. As an adult his profession was in the field of construction work. He was employed by the J. E. Dunn Construction Company. It was there that he helped in the construction of the Kansas City Chief's Football Stadium. Arvon Don worked at various jobs, later retiring from the Steel Service Building Company in Claremore, Oklahoma. On January 12, 2003, Arvon surrendered his life to God and was baptized at Nowata First Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Rex Woodfork. That was a "Great Day"! Arvon was very fond of his pastor and worked closely by his side in many church endeavors. Arvon also served under the pastorage of Reverend Ralph Beavers at the same said church and remained a faithful member until the Lord called him home to Glory. Arvon was an outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting and hanging out with family and friends. He took great pride in his gardening skills and his yield was proof of those skills. He was a devoted father and a loving Paw-Paw who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. They were the joy of his life. In turn, Paw-Paw was the apple of their eyes. Arvon was preceded in death by his eldest brother Richard who went on to be with the Lord just one year prior to the date (January 25, 2017) of his passing. Arvon leaves to cherish his loving memory his life-long loving companion Jennifer, of the home; his parents Floyd and Shirley Thompson; brother Eddie Thompson, Grandview MO; sister, Juanita Jordan, Tulsa OK; five children, Arvon Jr. (Loretta), Bartlesville OK; Denise, KCMO; Floyd (Shelby), Grandview MO; Aaron, Grandview MO; Courtney Ray, KCMO; John, Nowata OK; Dana, Nowata, OK. Thirteen grandchildren, Shavon, Avonna, Avonte', Davion, Trevor, Ocean, Island, Brycen, Mariah, Malyiah, MalyKhi, Saniyah, Arianna and his great-grandson Da'von. Plus, a "GREAT HOST" of family, friends and loved ones. The "GREAT HOST" of family that await Arvon's appearing on that "GREAT DAY" are his paternal grandparents, Joe and Aggie Thompson; maternal grandparents, Ross Lee Martin Sr. and Helen Cave; seven uncles, Ross Lee Martin, Jr., Harold Thompson, Wayne Thompson, Willie Peace, George Cotrell, Leroy Cotrell and Kenneth Martin, Sr; four aunts, Marie Green, Gladys Martin, Thelma Baldridge, and Barbara Neely.
