Barbara Ellen Ellison, 90, of Nowata, Oklahoma, passed away on January 30, 2024, at The Journey Home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Claremore, Oklahoma, on January 12, 1934, to Dero Vinita Jr. and Elsie (Page) Vinita.
Barbara grew up in the Alluwe area. She had four children: Mary, Debbie, Carla, and Ernest. While her children were young, she worked as a homemaker, tending to the needs of the home and family. She was a special lady that had various talents. In her free time, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens and fishpond, cooking, and sewing. She loved making candy and people loved eating Barbara’s candy. She made the best peanut brittle and had many Blue Ribbons from the county fair to prove its taste! Barbara loved children and babysitted for several Nowata area families’ children throughout the years. She also sewed and made many quilts for everyone’s children. In Barbara’s later years, she enjoyed shopping, working at the Cherokee Nation, and running around with Mike and Cathy Bryant. Barbara will truly be missed by her family and everyone that knew her.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents: Dero and Elsie Vinita; her first husband: J.D. King; her second husband: Ralph Ellison; and her sister: Rosella May King.
Those left to cherish the memory of Barbara include her children: Mary Short and husband, Rick, of Dewey, Oklahoma, Debbie King of Dewey, Oklahoma, Carla Meason of Dewey, Oklahoma, and Ernest Ellison of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; her grandchildren: Mistie Pollard, Shawn Short, Jack Short, Jeana Boyd, Wendy King, Shelby King, Taylor King, Athena Beams, Sage Ellison, Maddyson Ellison, and Jaci Thompson; her 11 great grandchildren; her 10 great-great grandchildren, her sisters: Ruth Wood of Nowata, Oklahoma and Mary Wilson of Nowata, Oklahoma, along with other family members and many friends.
A memorial service is planned for Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the Nowata Re-located Cemetery at 2:00 PM with Pastor Traven Pollard officiating.
