Barbara Watkins

Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita - 918-256-5555, Barbara A. Watkins, 93 year old Chelsea resident, died early Tuesday morning, October 28, 2014, at the Heartsworth Nursing Center in Vinita. She was born on December 14, 1920 in Chelsea to John Richard Beard Parks and Anne (Waldrop) Parks. Barbara was a graduate of Chelsea High School and attended OSU secretarial school for two years. She was married to Jay Watkins in 1940, he preceded her in death in 1993. Barbara was a very active member of the Chelsea community, helping plan and build the Pocket Park, Christmas Decorations and Flags for the city. She loved driving around and exploring Oklahoma with her husband, working in her yard, and was an avid Bridge player. Barbara also enjoyed having her nephews Chris and Jay Olson spend time with her during their years growing up. She also liked taking the kids to the fair and on other outings. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Jay, sister, Eleanor Beumer. The family includes: her sister, Betsy Olson of Vinita; nephews, Jay Olson, MD of Boise, Idaho, Chris Olson, MD of Chelsea; other relatives and many friends. The graveside service will be held on Friday, October 31, 2014 at 11:00 AM, at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita, with Fr. Phil Lawrence officiating.
