Bennie Mathews

Bennie Franklin Mathews, 72, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away on September 10, 2022, at Forest Manor in Dewey, Oklahoma.

Bennie was born in Lenapah, Oklahoma, on November 19, 1949, to Louis and Castella (Martin) Mathews.  In Bennie’s younger years, he grew up in the Lenapah area and his family later located to Tulsa. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa. Bennie went on to attend technical college and earned his certification in welding. He married Frankie Marie McCarrell.  Bennie worked as a welder at Southern Industries for more than 20 years, before retiring. Later in life, Bennie married Linda Elias in 1996 in South Coffeyville at Mathews Mountain.

Bennie enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling. He also loved to eat. One of his favorite things to do was getting together with family and friends and have BBQs. Bennie was a member of the Little Flock Baptist Church in South Coffeyville, OK.

Bennie is preceded in death by his parents; Louis and Castella Mathews, his brothers; John Norman Mathews, Robert Mathews, and Louis Mathews, his sister; Rosa Thomas, his son; Tyrone McCarrell, and his daughter; Tonya Mylo.

He is survived by his wife; Linda Mathews, his sons; Bennie Mathews Jr. and Kenauth Mathews, his daughter; Tanikka West, his grandson; Kendrick Berry, his daughters; Jerrice Thompson, Kathy Williams, Jackie Howard, and Tamantha Christopher, his brothers; James Nave Sr. and wife, Wendy, Bozzie Phelps and wife, Opal, and Charles Rowe and wife, Sandra, his sisters; Willa Mae Logan, Evelyn Bryant, and Ramona Powell, along with other family members and many friends.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel at 11:00 am with Reverend Vincent Orange officiating.  A visitation has been planned for Friday, September 23, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Benjamin Funeral Chapel in Nowata, OK.
