Bobby Gene “Pete” Yirsa, 91-year-old, lifelong Nowata resident, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021. Pete was born January 8, 1930, in Nowata, Oklahoma to John Markquis Yirsa and Martha Park Yirsa. Mr. Yirsa attended Nowata High School. On April 15, 1950, Pete married Marilyn Lee Foster in Nowata. He worked at Nowata General Hospital for over twenty-five years, maintaining the hospital. On top of carrying a full-time job, he kept the family farm running, as well as some carpentry work. He was a hard-worker and was not afraid to get his hands dirty. In his free time, he enjoyed coyote hunting, running the hounds, and spending time with his family. If you knew Pete, he had a great sense of humor and you would leave the conversation smiling.
He is preceded by his wife Marilyn Yirsa and his parents John and Martha Yirsa.
Pete is survived by his five children; Jerry and Vicky Yirsa of Nowata, Janice and Don Burn of Nowata, Vicki and David Cowan of Nowata, Donna Fuller of Nowata, and Lynn and Brenda Yirsa of Nowata; eleven grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Bobby Yirsa will be held Monday, November 29, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Nowata, Oklahoma, with Pastor Wendell Abbott officiating. Services are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Services in Nowata, Oklahoma.
