Bonnie Birkes

Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, OK....918-786-2261....Bonnie L. Birkes, 89 year old, Grove, Oklahoma resident, passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Grove Nursing Center. Bonnie was born on May 13, 1925 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Park F. and Hazel I. (Wills) Powell. Bonnie graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, OK and then attend John Brown University for a couple of years. On November 9, 1951 Bonnie married Kenneth O. Birkes, together they raised two boys. Over the years, Bonnie worked at Carter Oil Company, Kelly Girl Service and owned a flower shop in Webbers Falls. Most of all she enjoyed volunteering her time including 10 years at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, the First Baptist Church in Grove, the Thrift Shop, and the Grove General Hospital. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, sewing, and knitting, but most of all she loved to be with her family. She will be greatly missed. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister Mary McGoodwin. She is survived by her sons: Kenneth "Kenney" Birkes and his wife Connie of Grove, OK, and David Birkes and his wife Lorice of Tulsa, OK; one grandson Kenneth "Stoney" Birkes, of Grove, OK; one sister-in-law Mildred Carter of Tulsa, OK; and a host of other relatives and friends. A visitation for Bonnie will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 5, 2014 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, Oklahoma. Funeral services for Bonnie will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2014 also at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, Oklahoma. Interment will be at the Resthaven Cemetery in Sperry, Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove OK.
