Brenda Sue Smith, 67, of Nowata, Oklahoma, passed away onNovember 13, 2023, at Ascension St John Nowata with her family by her side. She was born to James Edward Hagebusch and Bobbie June (Hughes) Hagebusch on June 6, 1956, in Nowata, Oklahoma.
Brenda grew up and attended high school in Nowata, graduating with the class of 1974. After high school, she married Wesley Stover. While their marriage did not work out, they had one son together, Scott Stover.
She married Richard James Smith in Miami, Oklahoma, on April 15, 1989. The couple made their home in Nowata, Oklahoma and they were married until Richard’s passing in 2017. They had one daughter together, Stacy Smith. Brenda worked at the Nowata Elementary Cafeteria for several years. Brenda enjoyed several hobbies in her free time including camping, shopping, eating keylime, and going on random road trips or vacations. She was an avid University of Oklahoma fan and cheered for the Sooners. Brenda loved shopping and was very good at finding sales and discounts. She would not pay full price for anything that she bought!
Brenda was very passionate about her family, especially her grandchildren. Anytime she had any extra time, she would spend it with her family. She will be missed by everyone that knew her.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents: James and Bobbie Hagebusch; her husband: Richard Smith; her brother: Bob Hagebusch, her niece: Amy Hanigan, and her mother-in-law: Virginia McIntire.
Those left to cherish the memories of Brenda include her children: Scott Stover and wife, Tiffany of Nowata, OK, and Stacy Smith of Nowata, OK, her step-children: Sherry and Elias Estrada of Oklahoma City, OK, and Ricky and Yvonne Smith of Oklahoma City, OK; her grandchildren: Jackson Stover, Cooper Stover, and Bentley Stover of Nowata, OK, her siblings: Nancy Westfall and husband, Mark of Afton, OK and Kenny Hagebusch of Nowata, OK, along with many nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.
A funeral service for Brenda will be held on Tuesday, November21, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel with Wendell Abbott officiating. A visitation will be held onMonday, November 20, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel. Online condolences can be left at www.honoringmemoriesnowata.com.
