Carl Lee Long 81 of Nowata passed away at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa on Saturday, September 5, 2009. Carl was born on October 14, 1927 to Erve and Lue (McClellan) Long in Rural Maysville, Arkansas. He attended school in Maysville but graduated from Jay High School. Carl married Mildred (Midge) Lynnell Bryant on May 28, 1955 in Jay. He loved being outdoors, and enjoyed working cattle and riding his four wheeler. Everyday Carl would load up his three dogs and go to the pastures to make his rounds. He loved being a rancher but most of all Carl loved his family, Midge, his two daughters, and his four grandsons, they were his main focus. Carl was the President and director of KAMO Cooperate Board in Vinita, he served as a past president and board member of the VVEC in Collinsville. He was a former director of the Regent Bank in Nowata and served as the president for the rural RWD District 2 for the last 40 years. Carl is survived by his loving wife Midge of 54 years, 2 daughters Cheryl and her husband Rick Reid of Nowata, and Lisa and her husband Bart Balkman of Southlake, Texas, 4 grandsons J.C. Reid, Paul Reid, Cole Balkman, and Bryce Balkman, 1 brother James and his wife Cleta Long of Pryor, 2 nephews Randy Long and Brett Long and 1 niece Karen Long, numerous other extended family members and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Erve and Lue Long, and one infant brother Jasper Ray Long. Visitation will be held at the Benjamin Funeral Home from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday September 8th thru Friday September 11th. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009 in the Hillside Christian Church with Rev. Rick Thayer and Dr. Derrick Bohn officiating. Final committal rites will be accorded Mr. Long in the Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Carl's name can be made to the Nowata City County Library, 224 S. Pine, Nowata, OK 74048. Online condolences may be left for the Long family at www.honoringmemories.com Services have been entrusted to the Benjamin Funeral Home of Nowata.
