Charles “Wormy” Glen Atkins, 72-year-old Noxie resident, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024, at home. He was born September 23, 1951, in Coffeyville, Kansas to Charles Hershel and Mary Mildred (Vaughn) Atkins. As a child, he lived with his grandpa and grandma Vaughn helping them with their dairy farm. Later, as a teenager, he worked for Bud and Wanda Purkey at their Auto Salvage.
He met and married Carlene Coy on October 28, 1968. He then worked at Stapletons in Coffeyville and then ACME Foundry. After leaving ACME Foundry, he became a water well driller and later drilled oil and gas wells. He founded his own business, Wormy’s Drilling Company.
Wormy was known as a can fix anything kind of guy. He had a love for hunting and taking mountain trips. He had a little bad and a lot of good and would do anything for anyone.
Wormy is survived by his children, Randy Atkins of Wann, Oklahoma, Buddy Atkins of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, and Lacy Atkins of Pryor, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Darla Buttrey of Wann, Oklahoma, Nikkie Weil of Fredonia, Kansas, and Violet Atkins of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sherry Beard of Afton, Oklahoma, Tammy Atkins of Wann, Oklahoma, and Barbie Reeves of Coffeyville, Kansas; brother, Johnny Atkins of Leon, Kansas, 14 nieces and nephews, and numerous friends like family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Darrell Atkins, Billy Atkins, and Dennis Atkins.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Wormy’s place. Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemoriesnowata.com or on the funeral home Facebook page.
