Charles Chair

Charles Francis Chair, 84, of Nowata, Oklahoma passed away May 11, 2022, at his residence. He was born to Robert LaMarr and Edna (Hamil) Chair in Claremore, Oklahoma on January 1, 1938. Charles grew up in the Nowata area. While in high school, he was an exceptional and standout football player, being recruited from numerous colleges.

He joined the United States Army in December of 1958. On December 30, 1963, Charles married Jennifer Louise Jones in Nowata, Oklahoma. Charles was employed at Jencast in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, working as foundry laborer for 37 years before his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. Charles will be missed by all who knew him.

Charles is survived by a sister; Carol Sonenberg of Nowata, OK, a nephew; Doug Sonenberg and wife, LeeAnn of South Coffeyville, OK, a great-nephew; Douglas Sonenberg Jr of Lenapah, a great-niece, Leeza Thornton of Lenapah, OK, 3 great-great nieces; Lacey Thornton, Colena Thornton, and Alivia Thornton all of Lenapah, OK and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; Ed and Victoria Hamil, his parents; Robert and Edna Chair, and his wife; Jennifer Chair.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022, at the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Wendell Abbott officiating. A visitation has been planned for Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Benjamin Funeral Service.
