Daryl Gene Bailey was born March 11, 1956 in Oklahoma City, Ok, to Jerry and Berthalene Bailey. He attended Putnam City Schools before moving to Vinita, Ok, in 1968. Daryl graduated from Vinita High School in 1974.
Daryl moved to Ada, Ok, where he worked in the oil field with his Uncle Gene Bailey for over a year. He then attended technical school to obtain his license in Electric, Heat and Air, which he held for 40 years.
He was hired by GRDA in 1977 to work in the IT Department at Corporate Headquarters where he worked for 10 years. He then transferred to the Maintenance Department where he worked until he retired in 2016, for a total of 39 years at GRDA.
At age 7, Daryl found his love and talent for playing the drums. He would use his fingers as drumsticks on any piece of furniture in front of him. When in high school he joined the marching band and loved every minute of it. He then joined Kim Uzzle, John Schultz, Tracy Williams, Greg Kelso and Tony Minson to form Idlewood Wild, a Rock and Roll band. They covered all the popular songs of the 70’s and were a hit at all the high school dances on Friday night at Teen Town and surrounding towns. His parents chaperoned most of the events and were very proud of him and all his accomplishments.
Daryl continued to play drums all his life. He joined the Fourth street Mission Church band where he met Jen, the love of his life, who joined the band as a singer. After 2 years of dating, Daryl married Jennifer Lynn Elsey on July 3, 2010, in Springfield MO, and made their home in Vinita. They have a son Logan Michael, daughter Alexis Nichole, son Daryl II (Bo), and daughter Michelle Le Ann.
Daryl loved to cook for his family and friends indoors and outdoors. He was always planning a big feast. They also enjoyed fishing and traveling together and watching movies. Daryl loved spending time with his wife and kids. They were his sunshine no matter how cloudy life got.
One of Daryl’s other passions was to serve his community at annual events by doing sound for the rodeo, the Calf Fry, Welch Jr Miss Pageant for 5 years and he did Octoberfest for 25 years.
In the last 4 years Daryl found a renewed joy in attending church with his family at Isaiah 58, as a soundman and drummer for the church band. Jen also resumed her role as a singer in the band, which brought them full circle to how they met. Daryl loved the Lord and gave of himself in any way he could!
Daryl made many good friends in every chapter of his life. He cherished those friendships and always had a smile for anyone who wanted to visit with him. The friendships he had with his church family at Isaiah 58 were very dear to his heart.
