Daryl Gray

Grove - Daryl Duane Gray passed away November 13, 2007 at Freeman Hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Anderson, Missouri on May 14, 1933, to William Wilbur and Elta Pearl (Betts) Gray. He graduated from Grove High School in 1953 and enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean War as a Mess Sergeant. After returning from Korea, he attended Pittsburg State University while owning and operating the Gulf and Deep Rock Service Stations on the Missouri/Oklahoma State line. In 1958 he purchased land in Grove, and with his father built Graymart Service and Tire Center. In 1969, Daryl was elected to the city council for two terms, serving as mayor for one term. He retired from Graymart in January of 1991. Daryl and Judith Ann Baker were married in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 23, 1967. He was guided to heaven by his son, Phillip Dean Gray, and his parents. He is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Judy, devoted children, daughter Lisa Lee Lovelady and her husband Steve, sons Jarrell Duane and his wife Carra, Marc Kyle and his wife Tammy. He also survived by nine grandchildren; Emily and Kyle Lovelady, Parker Silva, Nick, Ben and Xander Gray, Ashley Jante, Katie and Sara Nix, all of Grove, Oklahoma. He is also survived by four brothers and one sister; William Arden and his wife Collen of Pittsburg, Kansas, Ted Warren and his wife Sue of Grove, Oklahoma, Charles Wilbur of Grove, Oklahoma. James Morris and his wife Kay of Grove, Oklahoma, and Dena Hilliard and her husband Bob of Carrolton, Georgia, and brother-in-law Larry Baker and his wife Edella, a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Daryl dearly enjoyed life, his family and morning coffee with friends at McDonalds. He will be greatly missed by ALL and his unique voice and quick wit will live in our memories. A visitation for family and friends will be held 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 15, 2007 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 16, 2007 at the First Christian Church with Dr. Robin Cowan and Dr. Wayne Shaw officiating. Casket bearers will be Steve Lovelady, Marc Gray, Jarrell Gray, Kyle Lovelady, Norm Stephenson, and Doug Thrasher. Interment will follow at the Olympus Cemetery in Grove, Oklahoma.
