Delbert Slack

Delbert C. Slack, 86, died Sunday morning September 27, 2009 in the Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center. Delbert C. Slack was born September 9, 1923 to Benjamin Frank Slack and Clara E. Hyde in Kaw City, Oklahoma. In 1937 Delbert moved to Nowata to work with Palen Dairy until it closed in the 1950's since that time he continued to live on the original dairy land. Delbert was united in marriage with Virginia Bluejacket Slack in Nowata in 1947. He was a field Supervisor for the Oklahoma Corporation Commission for several years before retiring. His second career was plugging abandoned oil wells for business and OREB. In 1998 Virginia preceded him in death. Delbert married Jessie Easterling who survives him. Delbert was a member of the First Christian Church and was dedicated in the building of the current church building.. He was instrumental in the direction of 1033 ambulance and served as president for several years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and held various leadership roles. He had a strong work ethic and will be dearly missed. Delbert is survived by his wife Jessie Slack of the home, four children Ben C. Slack and his wife Karen of Ochelata, Ok, Sue Collier of Tulsa, Ok, Joe Slack and his wife Becky of Nowata, OK and Phyllis Whistler of Denver, Co, Nine Grandchildren, Several Great and Great-Great Grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Slack will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the First Christian Church of Nowata with Rev. Robert Crawford officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 6-8pm Tuesday evening. On-line condolences can be left for the family at www.honoringmemories.com.
