Dolly Henley

January 6, 1917 — May 14, 2011

Dolly Thelma (Taylor) Henley, 94, quietly went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday morning, May 14th, 2011, in Vinita, Oklahoma. She was a resident of Heartsworth Assisted Living Center at the time of her death. She was born January 6, 1917, and was one of ten children born to Asa Childs Taylor and Virginia Adaline Curnutt. She grew up and attended school in the West Point Rural School District near Welch, Oklahoma. On March 30th, 1944, she married Prentice M. Henley and their union lasted until P.M. passed away Christmas Day 1991. For a time, Dolly served as the telephone operator for the residents of the city of Bluejacket and the surrounding area and she was well known throughout the northern part of Craig County. Dolly also worked at the Munsingwear Hosiery Plant for a number of years in Vinita. Also, for many years Dolly was a volunteer with the Cherry Red organization at the Craig General Hospital. Cooking was her gift and a major part of her life. Dolly's pies and cakes were superb. For many years, she worked with a group of other ladies at the weekly livestock auctions in Vinita and Welch providing the noontime meal for local farmers and ranchers. The ladies used the proceeds from these lunches to charter and fund the nondenominational Ironside Assembly Church (now Emmanuel Church) located west of Vinita. The ladies also made and sold peanut brittle during the holidays for additional income. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers and two sisters. She is survived by two children : her daughter Mary Lue Lane and husband Jim and her son Prentice T. Henley and wife Gaylene, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Prentice R. Lane, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Jimmie Lue Bowman and spouse Lt. Col. Brian Bowman, Columbus, Mississippi; three great-grandchildren, Caleb Henley Carmichael, Andrew Bowman and Emily Bowman, all of Wichita Falls, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Serving God, church, family and feeding her aging neighbors in the 200 block of North Scraper Street were her primary concerns throughout her life. At the time of her death, she was a member of The Family Praise Center in Vinita. The family would like to thank the management, staff, and residents at Heartsworth Assisted Living Center for their loving care and concern throughout her stay there. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday May 18, 2011 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gerry Ogdon and Rev. Roger Ortlieb officiating with Interment at Fairview Cemetery, Vinita, Oklahoma, under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the Funeral Home.
