Donald Gene Corley, 78, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma passed away Friday, February 12, 2010 at Jane Phillips Medical Center. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16th at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Kevin Tully officiating. Internment will be immediately following in Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville. Viewing will be all day Monday and Tuesday morning at Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Bartlesville. Don was born on September 14, 1931 in Lubbock, Texas, as the oldest of three children born to Gene and Floe Corley. Don spent most of his youth in Memphis, Texas, where he graduated from Memphis High School in 1949. Don was stationed in Germany while serving in the United States Army, and in 1956, Don fell in love with Shirley Jean Russell in Cactus, Texas. They were married in Dumas, Texas, on March 9, 1957, and over the next ten years were blessed with four children, David Eugene, Randall Leroy, Valerie Ann and Deanna Gail. Don graduated from Texas Technological University in Lubbock, Texas in 1959 with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In 1960, Don began his 28-year career with Phillips Petroleum Company, spanning positions in Cactus, Texas; Borger, Texas; Stavanger, Norway; and Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Don retired from Phillips in 1988. Don lived an active life and had a competitive spirit, enjoying games and challenges of all types. At various stages of his life, he coached youth softball and soccer, and enjoyed bowling and fishing. Don was an avid golfer, with three holes in one, shooting his age, and assisting with the renovation of Adams Municipal Golf Course included in his prized accomplishments. Don and Shirley loved to square dance, and served as officers in the Bartlesville Boot Scooters Square Dance Club. Don also enjoyed gardening, woodworking and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Most of all, Don was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and relished time spent with his family and friends. In addition to his wife Shirley, Don is survived by his brother, Dave Corley of Canyon, Texas; his sister, Claudia Hanes of Friona, Texas; his son, Randall Corley of Arlington Heights, Illinois; his daughters Valerie Toalson of Parkland, Florida and Deanna Payton of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and seven grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents Gene and Floe Corley, and his son, David Corley.
