Doris Hawk

Doris Jean Hawk, 86, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Jane Phillips Medical Center. Born February 6, 1927, Doris was the third child of Claire (Sampson) and Arthur Hawk. Her parents had come to Oklahoma before statehood and Doris was raised southeast of Bartlesville on a farm on Hogshooter Creek. She went to Truskett Grade School, Ramona High School and Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha. Doris worked as a private secretary at Phillips Petroleum Company, 42 years. She worked for Bill Hutchison and Mr. Cook in R&D, the last years that she worked. Doris was a member of the Jane Phillips Sorority and First United Methodist Church. She took very good care of her parents. At the age of two, Doris contracted polio, and several years after her retirement, developed post-polio syndrome. In 2010, she became dependent on a wheel chair. Doris continued to live alone and managed her own affairs until 2013, when she had to have assistance in her home. Doris was determined to stay in her own home. Her two great-nieces, Tracie and Heather, brought a lot of joy to her life. They shared their seven children with her. Doris enjoyed seeing the children and hearing their funny stories. She was very generous and wanted to donate to every cause. Doris loved her cat and dog and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her niece, Gayle Prendergast and her husband, Lents of Bartlesville; great-niece, Tracie Malloy and her husband, Dr. Michael Malloy and their family of Tulsa, OK and by her great-niece, Heather London and her husband, Andy and family of Dallas, Texas. She was preceded by her parents; by a sister, Helen Pauline (Hawk) Pittman and a brother, Clarence Hawk.
