Dorothy Elizabeth Burkart, 97, of Bartlesville, passed away Friday morning at Heritage Villa Nursing Home.
Dorothy was born November 22, 1922 at Bartlesville to James M. Cowan and Clara (Linstrot) Cowan. She spent her early years in Bartlesville, then the family moved to Appleton City, Missouri. The family moved back to Bartlesville, where Dorothy graduated from College High School. She married W.E. “Bill” Featherston and the couple would have two children. Dorothy began a career with Southwestern Bell as an operator and later as a Plan Assignor, retiring after 28 years of service.
On April 3, 1967 Dorothy married Hubert A. Burkart at Nowata, Oklahoma. The Burkarts made their home in Bartlesville. Mr. Burkart preceded his wife in death.
Dorothy was a member of Southwestern Bell Pioneers and former member of the Moose Lodge. She and Hubert loved to travel. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially on Thanksgiving and at Christmas.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Norwood and husband, Bill of Bartlesville; her son, Jim Featherston and his wife, Jo also of Bartlesville; four grandchildren, Marsha Meine and her husband, John of Rogers, Minnesota, Tony Norwood and his wife, Kemmy of Grove, Oklahoma, James Featherston and his wife, Elizabeth of Bartlesville and Joshua Featherston and his wife, Stephanie of Dewey, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral service will be held 2pm, Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at the graveside in Bartlesville Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Josh Shupe officiating. Service and interment are under the direction of Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home. Friends may pay their respects, Monday, 9am – 7pm at the funeral home.
