Long time Nowata resident, Pauline Smith, 88, passed away at Osage Nursing Center in Nowata. She was born May 29, 1924, in Canton, Illinois, to George and Rosa (Wages) Cowden. She attended school in the Canton area and on August 25, 1941 she married Atlas Henry Smith in Missouri. Pauline worked at the Bliss and Ideal restaurants in Nowata, as well as Osage Nursing Center for a number of years. She was a member of Hillside Christian Church, in Nowata. Pauline enjoyed fishing and decorating her yard. She loved knick-knacks and filled her home with her treasures. Pauline loved caring for her family and will be missed by her many family and friends. Preceding Mrs. Smith in death are her parents, George and Rosa Cowden; her husband Atlas Henry Smith; siblings Betty Malone, Wally Cowden, Alan Cowden and Doris Myers; and one grandson Boyd Smith. Survivors include her sons, Henry Smith Jr. and his wife Susie, of Florida, James Smith and his wife Earlene, of Bartlesville, grandchildren, Holly Barruita, Brian Smith, Michael Smith, Greg Smith, and Jamie Unkenholz; four great grandchildren; siblings, Helen Lehnhausn, and George Cowden Jr.; many other relatives and a host of friends.
