Ernest Cowles Sr.

Ernest H. Cowles Sr, age 83 of Big Cabin, died Thursday, October 18, 2012. Ernest was born in Washington County, Arkansas on April 30, 1929 to John and Goldie (Raley) Cowles. He served as a Corporal in the United States Army form 1946-1948. On December 13, 1958 he was united in marriage to Effie Lou Keel. Ernest was a jack of all trades. He worked in a lumber mill, he was a pilot, he helped engineer lunar landing modules for Apollo Missions, and he worked for American Airlines in quality control. Ernest enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, building, reading, learning, watching westerns, and spending time with his family and dogs. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Big Cabin. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Effie Cowles, sons: Earnest Cowles of Muskogee, James Cowles and wife Penny of Muskogee, and Luke Cowles and wife Cheryl of Bartlesville, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and sister in law Mamie Cowles of Miami, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Laurence Cowles, John Cowles, Billy Cowles, Jewel Henricks, and Goldie Millie. Memorials may be sent to the Baptist Children's Home in Owasso at 12700 E 76th Street N, Owasso, OK 74055 Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Monday, October 22, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Big Cabin with Pastor Larry Jackson officiating.
