Esther Chilcoat

Long-time Bartlesville resident Esther B. Chilcoat passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Green Country Village, her home for the past 2 ½ years. She was born June 13, 1917 in Westmoreland, Kansas, to Carroll and Lola (Wilbur) Barr. She graduated from Manhattan High School in Kansas and worked at Kansas State University where she met and married the late Ralph O. Chilcoat on December 24, 1937. They moved directly to Bartlesville which was home during the 67 years of their marriage. Mr. Chilcoat's job took them to Hershey, Pennsylvania, Borger, Texas, Calgary, Alberta, Spartanburg, South Carolina, Tacoa, Georgia, Fairbanks, Alaska, and London, England. Esther loved to travel, especially by car, to experience the countryside. She attended the 1972 Munich Olympics; treasured adventures in England during their eight year residence; loved to garden and had served as Treasurer of the Green Thumb Garden Club helping to "keep Bartlesville beautiful". She and Ralph were active in supporting the city parks. They have a memorial tree in Jo Allen Lowe Park. She volunteered with the Jane Phillips Medical Center Gift Shop and enjoyed classical music and musicals. First and foremost, Esther was the loving mother of three surviving children: Judy Keller and husband Kenneth of Monument, CO, Dan Chilcoat and wife Dona of Lakewood, CO, Steve Chilcoat and wife Beverly of Bartlesville and seven grandchildren: Kimberly Keller, Scott T. Keller and wife Amy, Doane Chilcoat and wife Kendra, Elizabeth Chilcoat, Chelsea Chilcoat, Laura Chilcoat and husband Dennis Pelton and Adrienne Compton. There are two great-grandchildren: Gwyneth A. Chilcoat and Jameson G. Hatsian. Also surviving are four brothers, Gilbert T. Barr, Bernard Barr, Maurice Barr and Robert Barr and one sister, Elaine Wilson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Her parents and two brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services for Mrs. Chilcoat will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Bartlesville. Rev. Kevin Tully will be the officiant. Visitation will be in the Arnold Moore Funeral Home on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 8 and 9 from 9 to 9. On-line condolences may be left at honoringmemories.com.
