Esther Lovern Morris was born in Rural Centralia on May 14, 1937 to Hugh and Leola (Middlebusher) Bowden. Shen went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 5, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family.
Esther grew up helping on the family farm and taught herself to play the piano and accordion. She was a blessing to many as she sang and played praises at church.
Esther received all her education at Childers School where she graduated in the class of 1955. She then married the love of her life, Jack Morris, on February 11, 1956 in Nowata, Oklahoma. Together they raised two children, Sandra and Tony. Jack and Esther worked side by side together for over 63 years. Together they farmed and ran a dairy. Esther was an amazing gardener raising two gardens each year- one a vegetable and the other full of stunning flowers. Both gardens were a beautiful sight with passer byers often stopping to admire and take pictures.
Esther spent many hours preserving her vegetables to feed her family and friends throughout the year. She was an outstanding cook that people have enjoyed for many years, especially her hot rolls and apple pie. Esther served as a tour guide to school children during field trips to their farm.
In 1973 Jack and Esther were recognized as the Tulsa World Farm Family of the year as well as the Nowata County Farm Bureau Farm Family of the year in 1986. Esther was an active member in the Oklahoma Extension Club as a Sunflower Belle. She was an excellent seamstress as she was able to mend your old favorites and create beautiful new clothes.
Esther was a very active member of the New Life Assembly of God Church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, Women’s Missions, as well as prepare and serve food on the benevolence committee. Esther served her community by serving on the Election Board. She along with her husband Jack hosted gospel singing suppers every month, then she would hold an annual Easter Egg Hunt at their home.
Esther is survived by her husband Jack of the home; daughter Sandra Hallett and husband Roger of Childers, son Tony Morris and wife Kathy of Childers. Five grandchildren, Clinton Hallett of Nowata; Carissa (Jordan) Provost of Childers; Jackie (Jimmy) Chaney of Wann; Jarrod (Melissa) Morris of Childers; and Jamie (CJ) Holinsworth of Nowata. Two Brothers Virgil and wife Hazel Bowden and Joe Bowden. Two Sisters Ruby Henegar and Dorothy Pregler, as well as a very special sister in law Donna and husband Jim Winn. Five Great Grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
Proceeding Esther in death are her parents, and infant son, and one sister Wilma Jean Yirsa.
