Eugene White

Benjamin Funeral Service - Nowata, Oklahoma.................................... Eugene L. White, age 86, died Friday, August 7, 2015, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville. Mr. White was a life-long Nowata resident. Mr. White was born on April 26, 1929, in Nowata, OK to Alton L. White and Alta Louise Illingsworth White. He was educated in Nowata, graduating from Nowata High School in 1948. Gene White was recruited by Bud Wilkinson to play football at the University of Oklahoma. He loved football and played at Northeastern A & M in Miami, OK; Coffeyville Community College, Coffeyville, Kansas; and William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. Mr. White married his high school sweetheart Rachel June Bumgarner on May 6, 1950. He later enlisted in the United States Air Force at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, OK. Following Air Force duty, he became a licensed private pilot and was the pilot for Clem McSpadden on the rodeo circuit as well as working for Citation Manufacturing. He began working for his father at a very young age and then worked for Phillips Petroleum Company. Gene was self-employed as an independent oil producer for G & W Cementing and Okie Pump Truck. He was a member of the Elks Lodge. Mr. White is survived by his wife Rachel June of the home, his daughter Elisa Reid and her husband Rob of Nowata. He has two grandchildren, Rachel Reid Chapman and her husband Ryan of Owasso, OK, and Ryan Reid and his wife Kristen of Owasso, OK. His great-grandchildren are Maddox Bullen, Spencer Bullen, Rhys Chapman, Kate Reid, Alex Reid and Nick Reid; his step great-grandchildren are Bailee Chapman, Noah Chapman and Olivia Chapman. He was predeceased by his parents. Eugene L White will be laid to rest at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 15, 2015. The graveside service at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery will be led by Reverend Ben Killion. Services are under the guidance of Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata, OK.
