Evangeline Lee Stookey “Vangie Smith” passed away June 29, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family and pets. She was born February 22, 1943 the daughter of Coy Smith and Wanda (Rouse) Smith in Vinita, Oklahoma. Vangie was a housewife, beautician and nurses aid at Eastern State Hospital. She married Preston Smith and from this union four daughters were born; Alice Nall and husband Carl, Wanda Scott and fiancé Brad Nowlin, Sheila Wright and partner Ron Nigh and Hedy Francis and husband Trampas. Vangie had twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She later married Larry Stookey and celebrated 22 years of marriage before his passing 5 years ago. Vangie was Baptist by faith and attended Bunker Hill Baptist Church. She loved her rescue pets, spending time with her grandchildren, flower gardening, writing in her journal, reading, sewing, working puzzles, and shopping on QVC. Vangie wrote a column for Vinita Daily Journal as Grandma Centrailia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and one great-grandchild Tuff Case Greenwood.
A family visitation will be Monday, July 06, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, July 07, 2020 at the Carselowey Cemetery with Pastor Skip McClain officiating.
