Freddie “Fred” Allen Maddox, 85, of Nowata, Oklahoma, passed away into the arms of his Lord and Savior on October 30, 2023, at Ascension St John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on October 28, 1938, in Nowata, Oklahoma. He was later adopted by Flossie and Ira “Blackie” Maddox.
Fred grew up in Nowata, Oklahoma, and graduated from Nowata High School in 1957. After graduation, Fred went to college at NEO College in Miami, Oklahoma, several tech schools; learning drafting and design, which he did not work out. He joined the United States Air Force, working as a Boom Operator. After his time in the air force, Fred decided to go back to college to finish his education and opted to do so at OSU, receiving a degree in Animal Science. After graduating from OSU, Fred went on to work for the OSU Cooperative Extension Science as a 4-H Agent in Delaware County.
In Fred’s earlier years, he was married to Della Mae Spears and from this marriage came Kristin Kay Maddox.On May 1, 1987, Fred married Joan Cable in Eufaula, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Nowata after retirement and were very active in the community and their church, the First Baptist Church of Nowata for the last 30 years. Fred had many unique interests which included playing golf, pecan cracking, taking photos of everyone, and using ham radio. Fred was a private pilot and was a member of the Coffeyville Rotary Club. He will be missed by all his friends and family.
Fred was preceded by his parents: Ira and Flossie Maddoxand his grandson: Justin Wallace.
Those left to cherish Fred’s memory include his wife: Joan Maddox of Nowata, Oklahoma; his children: Kristin Miller and husband, Clay of South Carolina, Joyce Wallace and husband, Donnie of Coffeyville, Kansas, and James Robert Woods and wife, Rebecca of Valrico, Florida; his grandchildren: Chandler Wallace and wife, Katelyn, Clayton Alva Wallace and wife, Ryann, Devin Wallace and wife Lindsey, Griffin Carter, Logan Carter, Jacob Woods, James Woods, Elijah Woods, Israel Rose Woods, Gabriel Woods, and Hadassah Woods; his great-grandchildren: Brayden Wallace, Taryn Wallace, Westyn Wallace, Daxin Wallace and Drake Wallace and other family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Nowata with Pastor Wayne Clayton and Brother Steve Cody officiating.
