George Tyner Jr.

George Marion Tyner, Jr. Mr. George Marion Tyner, Jr. longtime area school educator and administrator, age 90, died Sunday Sept 16, 2007 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Mr. Tyner, a Cherokee Indian, was born to George Marion Tyner, Sr. and his wife Ethel lone Marshall Tyner. He graduated from Dewey High School, Northeastern State College at Tahlequah, OK (Bachelor of Science), Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College at Stillwater, OK (Master of Science) and doctorate work at Oklahoma University at Norman, OK. He united in marriage with Thurlie Maxine Fletcher on September 5, 1942 in Hillside, OK. To This Marriage was born a son Timothy George. They taught at Ramona, OK before Mr. Tyner entered the U.S. Army in January 1943 and served in the Asiatic Pacific in 1945. They returned to Vera, OK where he served as superintendent, teacher and coach for twelve years. He became District Counselor for the Vocational Rehabilitation Division of Tulsa and lived in Claremore, OK. He moved his family to Bartlesville, OK where he became principal of Limestone Elementary School until his retirement. He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He attended First Baptist Church of Bartlesville and was a member of the Limestone Lions Club. Mr. Tyner is survived by his brothers-in-law William Lawrence Fletcher and wife Betty of Meeker, OK, Joe Gideon of Albuquerque, N.M., several nieces and nephews, cousins, his caregiver and great nephew Kent Duerksen and many friends. He was preceded by his wife Thurlie M. Tyner, a son Timothy George Tyner, sister-in-law Ila N. Fletcher Blackketter and husband J Wendell, sister-in-law Gwen Gideon, and his parents. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday September 20, 2007 in the Colonial Chapel of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home, with The Rev. Dr. Joe Dan Fowler officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 PM on the family plot of the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita, OK with the Rev. Darwin D. Wolfe officiating. Services are under the direction of the Neekamp -Luginbuel Funeral home.
