Glen Olen Adkins, 88, formerly of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away early Saturday morning, March 14, 2020 at his residence at Brookdale Bartlesville Assisted Living.
Glen was born May 25, 1931 at Ralston, Oklahoma to William McKinley “Bill” Adkins and Ethel F. (Marshall) Adkins. He attended school in Hominy, Grayhorse and Fairfax, graduating with the Fairfax High School Class of 1951. Glen joined the U.S. Air Force on June 19, 1951 and on December 26, that same year, married his high school sweetheart, Dora Agan in Fairfax. Upon his honorable discharge in 1955, Glen went to work in the oil fields and was roustabout supervisor for Kewanee Oil, Gulf and Chevron, retiring in 1990 after 35 years of faithful service. He was a member of the Fairfax and Ponca City First Baptist Churches, and in earlier years was very active in the American Legion Post #14, Grayhorse Masonic Lodge #124, where he was also a Shriner. He regularly participated in Legion Veterans Day parades and numerous Shriner activities. He was a proud, unselfish veteran of the United States Armed Forces.
Glen is survived by his son, Dennis Adkins and wife, Susan of Stillwater, Oklahoma; a daughter, Sherri Treat and husband, Steve of Edmond, Oklahoma; one brother, Billy of Blanchard, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mary Jordan and husband, Dick of Bartlesville and Ona Gregg and husband, Chuck of Owasso, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Kevin Adkins of Stillwater and Ashley Burson and husband, Dwayne of Bartlesville and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Dora on April 13, 2019; by one brother, R.C. Adkins; by a sister, Juanita Gentry and a grandson, Derek Schneider. The family would also like to thank the caregivers of Bartlesville Brookdale North Assisted Living and to the staff of Rivercross Hospice. Their kind and attentive support for Glen in his final journey is sincerely appreciated.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, March 20 at Resthaven Cemetery in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Visitation will be Wednesday and Thursday, 9am-8pm at Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave. Bartlesville, OK. The family will be present, 6-8 pm, Thursday night to greet friends. Donations in Glen’s memory are welcome.
