Luginbuel Funeral Home - Vinita - 918-256-5555..... Glenda Kay Downing, 62 year old Vinita resident, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 1, 2017. Glenda was born in Vinita to Andy Junior Johnson and Ida Louise (Allen) Johnson. She graduated from Vinita High School and went on to earn her Associates Degree in Journalism from Carl Albert Junior College in Poteau, OK and a bachelor's degree from NSU. On May 20, 1977 she was united in marriage to Farris Downing and together raised two daughters. Glenda was a member of the United Missionary Baptist Church, the OEA, NEA, the NAACP, and was a pillar of the community and Vinita School Systems. She enjoyed reading biographies and history research, decorating, cooking, politics, and singing. Survivors include her loving husband Farris of the home, daughters: Rasheida Downing and Cicley Downing of Vinita, grandchildren: Jaleel Downing, Kyron Thomas, Amarie Ramsey, Kejuan Ramsey, and Brian Love, Jr. all of Vinita, siblings: Jackie Johnson of Vinita, Johnny Lee Johnson of Vinita, Julia Starr of Kansas City, MO, Della Ramsey of Warner Robbins, GA, Kathleen Hensley of Vinita, Delana Johnson of Vinita, Cecelia Ramsey of Warner Robbins, GA, and Shirley Coffey of Omaha, NE, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Calvin Johnson and Garland Johnson. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Luginbuel Chapel. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, May 5, 2017 at the Family Praise Center Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home.
