Harry Lair

Harry Ervin Lair, age 85, a resident of Bartlesville died Friday October 27, 2006 at his home. Mr. Lair was born August 20, 1921 in Niotaze, Kansas the son of James Lair and Emily Coke. He was raised and educated in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Harry joined the Marines and served as a corporal during World War II with the 970th Platoon from October 1943 to January 1946. He saw action in Guam, Marianas Islands, Okinawa, Guadalcanal and the Ryukyu Islands. Harry participated in the surrender of Japanese military forces in Tsingtao, China and witnessed the flag being planted at Iwo Jima from a ship in the harbor. He received the medal of Valor for service above and beyond the call of duty. Harry Ervin Lair and Dorothy Grace Hawkins were united in marriage on December 25, 1940 at the Silver lake Baptist Church. Harry was employed with Reda Pump working in the electrical department, with more than 45 years of service before his retirement in 1983. He was a 50 year member of the New Harmony Baptist Church. Harry was a devoted husband and caring father who loved to help others. Mr. Lair is survived by two children Rodney Lair and his wife Donna of Talala, Ok and Vicki L. Pierce and her husband Tony of Oologah, Ok, one sister Ida Dunkle of California four grandchildren, Carolyn Sheppard and her husband David, Pam Lair, Tony D. Pierce and Shauna Pierce, one great grandchild Matthew Sheppard and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Lair is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Grace Lair, his parents James Lair and Emily Coke, two infant children Ervin Logan Lair and Craig Douglas Lair, two brothers and four sisters. Funeral services for Harry Ervin Lair will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 30, 2006 at the Colonial Chapel of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home with interment to follow in the Oglesby cemetery. Rev. Tom Cox of the New Harmony Baptist Church will preside over the services. Military honors for Mr. Lair will be provided by the James H. Teel American Legion Post #105 honor guard.
