Herbert Adams

Herbert O. Adams 86, of Nowata passed away at his home on Sunday, April 19, 2009. Herbert was born on August 16, 1922 in Hog Shooter, Oklahoma to William T. and Annie (Marshall) Adams. Herbert was a member of the Childers Full Gospel Church. He married Pearl May Sandburg on January 14, 1944. Herbert joined the Army and served in WWII where he was awarded the Purple Heart and achieved the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge. Herbert drove a semi truck for several years; it was a wonderful time in his life. He later owned and operated a sanitation business in Phoenix, Arizona until his retirement in 1963. He loved to take road trips, walks, and enjoyed the outdoors. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great granddaughter. Herbert is survived by his 3 children Herbert T. Adams and his wife Gretchen, Cathy Bryant and her husband Michael, and Tim Adams and his wife Kelly, 6 grandchildren Herman Miller, Gene Miller and his wife Misty, Ted Miller and his wife Tonya, Shelly Carley and her husband Scott, Marvin Hershiser and his wife Kathy, and Brent Adams, 16 great grandchildren Lacy Brown and her husband Anthony, Ricky Adams, Kacy Adams, Noah Carley, Gracie Carley, Megan Hershiser, Jason Hershiser, Katy Hershiser, Gunnar Miller, Stormy Miller, Teddy Miller, Clifford Miller, Amanda Miller, Jessica Adams, Nicky Adams, and Sarah Miller, and one great great granddaughter MaShayla Louanna Brown, special friends Dorthy Jean Tatum, and John Lakely, numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends such as Jimmie Denman and his wife Lori. He was preceded in death by his wife Pearl Sandburg Adams, his parents William and Annie Adams, one daughter Virginia Hershiser, one granddaughter McKenzy Pearl Carley, two brothers James Adams, and Raymond Adams, three sisters Francis Adams Waddell, Opal Longtail Fish, and Marjorie Mary Lou Adams. Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009 in the Benjamin Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplin Roger Sheppard officiating. Final committal rites will be accorded Mr. Adams in the Ball Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Adams will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Benjamin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the 10-33 Ambulance service in Herbert's name.
