Graveside services for Ivan Dale Brown are 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 15, 2014 at MT. Washington Cemetery in Lenapah with Chaplain Clint Kastler officiating. Ivan Dale Brown, 90, of Lenapah, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014 in Nowata. He was born August 8, 1923 in Nowata to Ida Fern (Sutherland) and Ivan Cecil Brown. He graduated from Alluwe High School in 1942 and lived his entire life in Nowata County. In September of 1942, Ivan joined the Army Air Corps as a teletype operator. Ivan traveled to Europe on the Queen Elizabeth and was assigned to the 381st bomb group and was on duty at the start of the D-Day invasion. On July 7, 1945, Ivan married the love of his life Catherine Nellene Cook in Nowata. In September of 1945 he was discharged from the military. Ivan was very civic minded. He was a member of the Lions Club, a member of the Lenapah School Board where he served as Vice President, very active with the Lenapah Rodeo, and was willing to do anything he could to promote Lenapah. "Tater" as his friends called him enjoyed hunting quail and taking care of his bird dogs. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many people. He will be missed by all who knew him. Ivan is survived by three daughters, Nancy Carrol and husband Jack Powell of South Coffeyville, Linda Louise Northup of Lenapah, Cindy Lea and husband Jim Bates of Coffeyville; two sons, Tommy Ray Brown and wife Alice of Nowata, Steven Dale Brown and wife Sharon of South Coffeyville; a brother, "Buck" Cletus Brown of Ponca City; a sister, Reta Mae Graves of Chelsea; seven grandchildren, Darry Powell, Sara Knight, Christine Spencer, Cody Brown, Dusten Brown, Blake Brown, Chad Brown, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Catherine Nellene Brown, and a brother, Kenneth Brown.
