Ivan Humphrey

Ivan Hilles Humphrey, 91, of Grove, Oklahoma died at 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Grand Lake Villa, Grove. Ivan was born February 25, 1917 in El Reno, Oklahoma to S. R. and Lillie (Vowels) Humphrey. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and Korea. For over 38 years, he worked as a shipping and receiving clerk for Wonder Bread Company in Tulsa, OK. He and his wife retired to a cabin on Lake Eucha and then they moved to Grove in 1997. Ivan was a founding member of University United Methodist Church in Tulsa. He even participated in building the church building. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #305 at Eucha and a member of the American Legion. Ivan was a long-time, extremely active member of the Moose Lodge. He attained the level of Pilgrim in the Moose Lodge, the highest honor he could receive. On May 30, 1947, he married Hilda V. Humphrey in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2007. Ivan was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Virginia Mitchell on February 9, 1983; and three brothers, Paul Humphrey, Wayne Humphrey, and Dale Humphrey. Survivors include one son, Ronald Humphrey of Tulsa, OK; one sister, Susie Humphrey of Boston, MA; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 17, 2008 at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. The funeral service for Ivan H. Humphrey will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the Moose Lodge south of Grove with Rev. Richard Dayringer officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Brewer, Gary Case, Steve Lewis, Audrey Case, Gary Lawrence, and Charles Smart. Honorary pallbearers will be and Merlin Eisenbarger, Arnold Williams, and Jerry Brewer. The Grove Veteran's Ritual Team will provide military honors. Burial will take place in Floral Haven Cemetery, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2008. The family suggests memorials to Moose Heart in memory of Mr. Humphrey.
