Jack Steel, Sr.

Jack Forrest Steel, Sr., 79, of Grove, Oklahoma died at 12:38 p.m., Sunday, October 26, 2008 in the Emergency Room of Integris Grove General Hospital, Grove, Oklahoma. Jack was born February 1, 1929 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Paul G. and Hazel (Simpson) Steel. After graduating from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he attended Tulsa University for two years. Jack was the Evidence Clerk for Grove Police Department in Grove, Oklahoma for three years. During this time, he also farmed and raised cattle. Although Jack enjoyed his farm and fishing, Jack's greatest enjoyments in life came from his family. He was a very devoted family man who immersed himself fully in the lives of his children and grandchildren. This was evident by the fact that he attended every activity for every kid and he coached his sons' football teams. He was a devout Christian. On March 19, 1949, Jack married Jacqueline Ellis in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. They made their home in Tulsa for a number of years before moving to Grove in 1977. Survivors include his wife, Jackie of the home; four sons, Jack Steel, Jr. of Elkins, Arkansas, Charles Samuel Steel of Tulsa, Robert Paul Steel and his wife Debra Gail of Glenpool, and James G. T. Steel and his wife Linda of Catoosa; two daughters, Deidre Rouse and her husband Jim and Jane Hahn and her husband Don both of Broken Arrow; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Joseph Steel; and one granddaughter, Amanda Dean. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Peoria Indian Tribal Cemetery, Peoria, Oklahoma east of Miami. The family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-1942.
