Jay, OK - James Tekella Allen, 69, died Thursday afternoon, July 20, 2006 at his home in rural Jay, Oklahoma. James was born March 16, 1937 at Clinton, Alabama to Samuel and Roberta (Mitchell) Allen. His family moved to Detroit, Michigan shortly after his birth where he was raised. After high school, James joined the U.S. Air Force in November 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. He moved to the Los Angeles, California area in 1958. He attended Rio Hondo College in Los Angeles, obtaining a degree in police science. James was a deputy marshal for the county of Los Angeles until his retirement in 1983, when he moved to Jay, Oklahoma. He married Carol Sue Hulsey in 1973 and they had a son, James Tekella Allen, II. He also had four children from a previous marriage - three sons, James Tekella Allen, Jr., Chris Allen and Bobby James Allen and a daughter, Crystal Allen. James was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, James, Jr. and Chris and by two brothers, Elijah and Daniel Allen. James was saved at an early age and enjoyed being in the house of God. He also liked fishing and arts and crafts until illness forced him to stop. James was a thirty-three and a third degree Mason in the Prince Hall Lodge of Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of the home; his son, James,II, his wife, Amy and their son, James Tekella Allen, III, of Roland, Oklahoma; son, Bobby Allen of Long Beach, California; his daughter, Crystal Alllen of Los Angeles; two brothers, David Allen and his wife, Charlie of Detroit and Gabriel Hill and his wife, Kandi of Long Beach; one sister, Brenda Hill of Stillwater, Oklahoma; one sister, Mary Hill of Long Beach; ten grandchildren; one great-grandson and many cousins. Funeral services are 10 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2006 at First Assembly of God in Jay, with Pastors James Bell and Bill Goldner officiating with interment at Olympus Cemetery, Grove, Oklahoma, under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay.
