James Benge

Richard Benge was born on February 21, 1935 to Charles and Lilly Benge in Webb City, Oklahoma. He attended Webb City schools and graduated from Shidler High School in 1953. Richard graduated from Northern Oklahoma Junior College in 1955. He worked in Tulsa for Oklahoma Natural Gas and Skaggs Drug Store. While attending college, Richard met and fell in love with Clois Cartwright. They married on April 14, 1956 in Clois' home town of Pawnee, OK. They relocated to Shidler, where they began their family and Richard began his career with Phillips Petroleum Company. In 1963, Richard and Clois moved to Dewey, OK to continue his career with Phillips. He spent his entire career with Phillips and retired on September 1, 1993. Richard led a full and active life in Dewey and Bartlesville that included volunteering with the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Little League baseball, and American Legion baseball. Richard was a member of Dewey United Methodist Church, serving as Treasurer. Richard helped build Dewey UMC's church building during his time there. Richard was active for many years in the Phillips 66 bowling leagues and was an avid golfer at Adams Golf Club. Richard and Clois enjoyed traveling, visiting their children and grandchildren when they lived in Europe, as well as taking them on special trips together, including several cruises and Disney World. Richard was preceded in death by his sisters Norma, Georgia, and Marybelle, and his brothers Charlie and Frank. He is survived by his brother Albert and sisters Martha, Dorothy, and Alice. He is survived by his wife Clois and his children and grandchildren: Son Kenneth Benge and his wife, Laura, grandsons Seth, Will and his wife Marissa, and Ted, and granddaughter Betsy; Son Jeff Benge and his wife, Amy, granddaughter Cori and grandson Travis. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and many friends.
