James Logan

March 11, 1959 — March 27, 2016

Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita 918-256-5555. James "Jay" Duke Logan II, 57, died suddenly on Sunday, March 27, 2016 at his home in Ozark, Ark. Born March 11, 1959 in Vinita, Okla., Jay attended school in Vinita until graduating high school in 1977. A master fisherman and avid bird hunter, Jay's appreciation for the outdoors began as a boy, spending many weekends fishing and hunting along the ponds and creeks of northeast Oklahoma. Early on, Jay's devotion to Sooner football became evident when he wept following the Sooner's loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Game of the Century in 1971. After high school, Jay promptly enrolled at the University of Oklahoma where he joined Sigma Chi Fraternity and made many lifelong friends. Jay graduated from OU in 1981 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Soon afterward he earned accreditations as a certified public accountant (CPA) and certified financial planner. He was also a licensed private pilot. Early in his career, Jay worked as staff accountant for CPA firms in San Angelo, Texas and Tulsa, Okla., before accepting the position of accounting/controller for Northeast Oklahoma Electric Cooperative in 1983. He later worked as investment manager for The Feldman Group in Chicago Ill., and as head of the financial planning division for Anderson Spector & Co. in Denton, Texas. In 1991 he became manager of administrative services for Northfork Electric Cooperative in Sayre, Okla. In 1994 he accepted the position of office manager and senior accountant for Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative in Ozark, Ark. Jay truly found his Mecca when he moved to Ozark, where his home on the banks of the Arkansas River became a source of inspiration and endless landscaping projects, which he loved. Through the years, he often opened his home to friends, coworkers and neighbors who enjoyed his cookouts, fish fries and smoked turkeys. A well-liked member of the community, Jay served on the Salvation Army board of directors and as president of Ozark Lion's Club. He also served on the Electric Cooperative's Federal Credit Union Supervisory Board, and was a member of the American Institute of Public Accountants and the Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Accountants Association. An excellent and oft-times long-winded storyteller, Jay leaves a legacy of hilarious tales based on his experiences. Among colleagues, family and friends, he was much loved for his sense of humor, gregarious spirit, hearty laugh, and unshakeable loyalty to family, friends, big dogs and Sooner football. For those lucky enough to receive a holiday call from the North Pole, Jay's spot-on impersonations of Santa Claus left listeners doubled over with laughter. Brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, Jay Logan will be greatly missed. Jay is preceded in death by his parents Dorothy Darrough Logan and James Duke Logan of Vinita, Okla. He is survived by his friend and companion of 15 years, Cathy Burns of Ozark, Ark.; brother Leonard Logan and spouse Dorene Logan of Vinita, Okla.; sister Liz Logan and spouse Bow Bailey of Vinita, Okla.; sister Mary Logan Wolf of Luther, Okla.; and nephews John Seidenberger of Tulsa, Okla.; and James Seidenberger of Vinita, Okla. A memorial service honoring Jay's life will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, May 21 at First United Methodist Church in Vinita, Okla. Memorial donations may be made in Jay's name to the Salvation Army of Arkansas or the Arkansas Sheriffs' Youth Ranches.
