James Morris

November 5, 1942 — August 21, 2017

James Odell Morris rural Vinita resident, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2017 at his home. He was born November 5, 1942 in Hunter, Arkansas the son of Lawrence Morris and Della Marie (Painter) Morris. His family moved to Tulsa, Ok. where he was raised and attended Will Rogers High School. James joined th US Army in 1959 and served in Vietnam. He married Tommie Kirk on September 27, 1963. They made their home in Tulsa, Ok. and started their family. James was a Tulsa firefighter until he retired in 1984. In 1985 he took a job as assistant head of security and safety at the University of Tulsa where he retired in 1993. James loved to raise, train and show Arabian horses. He and Tommie moved to rural Vinita in 2008 and continued to raise horses and enjoy their animals. He was preceded by his mother and father; his daughter Christie Lewis and a sister Anita Jarrett The family includes: his wife Tommie of the home Vinita; two sons, James Morris and wife Kim of Dallas, Tx; Keith Stayer of Tulsa, Ok.; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; One sister Shirley Nunley of Verdigris, Ok. The graveside service will be August 25, 2017 at 2:00 PM White Oak Cemetery with Pastor Lonnie Sanders officiating.
