Jerry Wayne Hewitt passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014 at his home. He was born November 24, 1946 in Nowata to Leona (Branaman) and Harold Hewitt. Jerry grew up in Nowata & Dewey, attending both schools. He was a member of the U.S. Army and very proud of his service, later serving as the Chaplain of the Nowata American Legion. He married Ginger Lakey on May 6, 1967 at Nowata. He was in the water field starting in Owasso transferred to Broken Arrow and lastly in Bixby. Throughout Jerry's life he served in the ministry in several capacities, as an evangelist and pastor of Trinity House of Prayer Ministries, to taking it to the streets with tent revival. In 1993, the Hewitts moved to Nowata from Wagoner, Oklahoma and in 1994, Jerry began employment with Nowata Public Schools, overseeing building and yard maintenance at all three schools. Jerry retired in 2008 and went to work part-time for Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and later, Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Jerry loved people, especially those he worked with and rode motorcycles with. He was quite the handy-man and didn't mind helping anyone with their projects. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially picking his guitar and playing gospel music with them. Jerry is survived by his wife Ginger of the home; two children Johnny Hewitt and wife Debbie of Wagoner, Teresa and husband Hank Harvey of Broken Arrow; five siblings Newton "Bill" Hewitt and wife Lowanda of Comfort, Texas, Steven Hewitt and wife Marla of Silver City, OK, Linda and husband Terry Wickham of Nowata, Rosie Marie Hewitt of Broken Arrow, OK, Wanda and husband Jay Munkirs of Nowata, OK; four grandchildren, Joshua Caleb Hewitt, Victoria Gwendolyn Hewitt, Derek Scott Harvey, Kasey Nicole and husband Matt Sanders. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents.
