Jerry Lee Wheat, 85-year-old Nowata County resident passed away September 24, 2020 at his residence with his family at his side. Jerry was born February 25, 1935 in Childers, OK, the son of Robert William and Grace Florence (Dabney) Wheat. He received his education at the Childers School. Jerry married the love of his life Sandra Sue Roberts on November 14, 1963 in Chelsea, OK. He was an employed by Page Milk Company for twenty-six and a half years before pursuing employment with Hiland Dairy. There he worked in sales and as a driver for twenty-one years. Soon after retirement he went to work for the Oklahoma Union Public School as a janitor and a bus driver.
Jerry and Sandra owned and operated a Dairy Farm for many years and had a great garden. He was a very hard worker and worked hard all his life. Jerry was a guy of many talents and wasn’t afraid of getting his hands dirty. He was always busy doing something whether it was mowing, taking care of cattle, or just keeping the maintence up around the farm. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, making bread, being outside and spending time with his family. He loved his family unconditionally and always made sure they were well taken care of. He will be missed by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Grace Wheat; one son Rex Wheat and one brother Leslie Wheat.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sandra Wheat of the home, two children; Craig Wheat, Elaine Grissom and husband Marcus, seven grandchildren: Tyler Wheat, Kelcie Cox and husband Wes, Aaron Faulkner, Bryce Hewitt, Chesnie Hewitt, Kolbi Wheat, Derrick Grissom, one great grandson Cannon Cox, one nephew Bryan Wheat, one niece Denise Gryzmala and a sister in law Jane Wheat.
Memorial services for Jerry Wheat will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at the Benjamin Funeral Chapel with Furan Jackson officiating.
