Jimmy “Doc” Dean Jackson was born on October 12, 1955, in Nowata, Oklahoma, to John Dewitt Jackson and Gwenna L. (Parrish) Jackson. Jimmy passed away peacefully to go home to his Lord and Savior on the morning of June 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at his residence in rural Nowata County.
Jimmy spent his entire lifetime in the “Big Creek” area in Nowata County. He began his education at the Childers Public School, attending 1st through 5th grades, then attending Alluwe Public School and Vo-Tech, where he graduated from in 1973.
When Jimmy was in the 1st grade, he began chasing Teresa Freeman around the playground. The pair was officially dating by the 9th grade and on October 18, 1974, Jimmy married the love of his life, Teresa Freeman. The couple remained in the “Big Creek” area had two children together: Joshua and Sabrina.
Jimmy worked as a mechanic for many years. He owned and operated Jackson’s Auto Service for more than 35 years in Nowata, OK. Throughout his life, he also worked as a mechanic on trucks or other equipment at other businesses such as Nowata County District #3, Arrow Trucking, Tulsa Auto Spring, and Rogers County District #2. At Alluwe School, Jimmy served as a school board member for numerous years.
Jimmy was a great athlete and was very competitive. For more than 30 years, sports were his life. He played baseball, basketball, volleyball, bowling, and co-ed softball. He coached little league baseball in Alluwe for about 15 years. In his free time, Jimmy enjoyed forging, bird hunting, and fishing. Jimmy felt the need for speed and loved to ride dirt bikes, 4-wheelers, and motorcycles. Of course, he never gave up his love for restoring cars and continued to work on those projects. Jimmy enjoyed spending time with his family and will be missed by them very much.
Jimmy is survived by his wife: Teresa Jackson of Nowata, OK; his children: Joshua Jackson and wife, Megan of Talala, OK, and Sabrina Jackson and Justin of Salina, OK; his grandchildren: Zach Malone and wife, Meghan, Jared Blagg, Aiden Bates and Keilynn Painter, Courtney Blagg, and Trigger and Colt Jackson; his great-grandchildren: Journey Ray Malone, Braxton Ogden, Kendra Allen, Malori Malone, and another great-grandchild on the way; his siblings: Diana Gower and husband, Bill of Bartlesville, OK, Carol Clapp and husband, Eldon of Nowata, OK, and Peggy Clapp and husband, Gary of Nowata, OK; his father in law: Charles “Sonny” Freeman of Nowata, OK; and his brother in law: Kenny Freeman of Nowata, OK; along with many other family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: John Melvin Jackson and Lucille Jackson; his maternal grandparents: Lee Parrish and Florence Parrish; his parents: John Dewitt Jackson and Gwenna L. Jackson; his mother-in-law: Wanda Freeman, and his stepmother-in-law: Jean Freeman.
The Jackson family would like to express their appreciation and the thoughtfulness of the Nowata Fire Department and EMS for always taking the best care of Jimmy. The love and care that this department showed this family will never be forgotten and will always be appreciated.
A visitation for Jimmy will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel in Nowata, Oklahoma, from 2:00-4:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 3, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Oologah, OK, with Pastor Greg McElroy officiating. Interment will follow at the Ball Cemetery in Childers, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nowata Fire Department and EMS, located at 425 S Cedar Nowata, OK 74048.
