John "Jay" Ewers Iii

John “Jay” Taylor Ewers III, 58, passed from this life into eternal rest at the Nowata Nursing Center on the evening of March 17, 2023. Jay was born on July 23, 1964, in Nowata, Oklahoma, to John Taylor Ewers Jr. and Shirley Diane Watson (Fowler).

Though Jay spent the majority of his life in the Nowata area, Jay’s family moved to Catoosa while Jay was a young age. He grew up and graduated from Catoosa High School. Jay worked as a rancher on his family farm in the Nowata area for most of his life.

Anyone that knew Jay, knew that he had a “heart of gold” and he truly enjoyed helping people. Jay loved spending his time outdoors, piddling with his projects. He also enjoyed dancing, playing Farkle, and shooting pool. Jay truly loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed by all that knew him.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents: John Ewers Jr. and Shirley Watson; his wife: Cressa Ewers; his maternal grandmother: Martha Haddox; his maternal grandfather: Arthur Fowler; his paternal grandparents: John T. Ewers Sr. and Bethel Ewers; his aunt and uncle: Carlton and Mary Lou Crupper; his aunt and uncle: Kenny and Cindy Fowler; his uncle: Richard Sticney; his cousin: Lauana Fowler; and his best friend: Don Parrish.

Those left to cherish the memory of a wonderful man include hischildren: Kenny Stover and wife, Jennifer; Shawna Birdsong, John Taylor Ewers IV, and Jarrett Gilmore and wife, Sarah;  his 11 grandchildren, his 2 great-grandchildren, his aunt: Barbara Lawson; his aunt and uncle: Jim and Pat Ewers; his cousins: Arthur “Dink Ornder and wife, Barbara, Monty Fowler, and Justin Fowler and wife, Jessica; his ex-wife and life-long friend: Sharron Hider, along with a host of other cousins, relatives, and many friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023, the Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
