Joseph Edward "Joe" Biggerstaff Joseph Edward "Joe" Biggerstaff was born in Van Buren, Arkansas, March 2, 1939, to David Clay and Ellen Louise (Goings) Biggerstaff. He passed from this life Monday, September 17, 2007, at Hillcrest Hospital, in Tulsa after reaching 68 years, 3 months, and 2 days. His family moved to Nowata in the early 1940's and he graduated from Nowata High School in 1957. He continued his education at NEO in Miami, Oklahoma. Joe then joined the United States Army in the early 1960's. He returned to Nowata upon separation from the Army, and worked with his dad at the Biggerstaff DX station at the corner of Hwy. 60 and Hwy. 169. Many local friends can remember the cowboys and friends hanging around the station carving wood and enjoying life in the times. In 1967 he went to work for the Oklahoma Natural Gas where he worked until his retirement in 1997. On November 3, 1973 he married Marilyn Mayes in Nowata and the have made their home here since. Joe loved his family very much. His wife, children, and grandchildren were the highlight of his life. His friends, Corbett, Mike, and Farley, "The Wild Bunch", were also very dear to him. Their friendship meant so much to him that he considered them family. He so much enjoyed being a part of Class of 1957. He so much enjoyed the reunion they just had in July. He thought of all of them as special friends. Joe loved the outdoors. Just being outside and working in his garden brought him hours of happiness. He will be missed by all who knew him. Proceeding Mr. Biggerstaff in death are his parents David and Ellen Biggerstaff; and step-father Montc Worthington. Surviving are his wife Marilyn, of the home; a son Adam Biggerstaff, of Stillwater; a daughter, Aarika Holt, and her husband Jeff, of Nowata; grandchildren, Evan Biggerstaff, Weston Holt, and Mesa Holt; a cousin, Ron Harmon; many other relatives and a host of friends.
