Joyce Kathleen Pliler Copeland Joyce Kathleen (Kathy) Pliler Copeland, 56, of Monkey Island at Grand Lake o' the Cherokees, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2008, at her home following an illness. She was born December 3, 1951, in Joplin, Missouri, to Charles Junior and Betty Porter Pliler, living in Ottawa County throughout her childhood. Kathy was a 1970 graduate of Miami High School and received her registered nursing degree in the first graduating class of the RN program from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami. Kathy had a distinguished career as a nurse and pharmaceutical sales representative before retiring at Grand Lake. She is survived by her husband, Stuart Droms, of the home; her mother and stepfather, Vic and Betty Klingenberg of Fairland; her father and stepmother, Charles and Margaret Pliler of Miami; her daughter, Annaniece Diane Wojcik-Cook; two stepdaughters: Janet Morton and husband Patrick Sheeler, and Jill McNally; eight grandchildren: Madaline Cook, Parker Wojcik-Cook, Stephen Samuel Wojik-Cook, Cassidy Morton, Stuart Morton, Elizabeth McNally, Michael McNally and Katherine McNally; four sisters: Susan Graham and husband Terry, and family, Carolyn (Cari) Williams and husband Mike and family, Barbara Pliler Meeks and family, and Mendy Kay Pliler; six stepsisters and two stepbrothers: Janet Savoy and husband Eric and family, Raeanne Briar and husband David and family, Donella Lara and family, Patricia Logan and husband Herb and family, Dennis Reavis and wife Sherry and family, Michael Reavis and wife Darlene and family, Paula Reavis and family, and Debbie Reavis and family. Kathy was greatly loved and will be missed by her many aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of beloved friends. She will be especially missed by the classmates and friends of her grandson, Parker, who knew her as the "Classroom Mimi". A memorial service and celebration of life was held Monday, November 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Center Baptist Church at 29020 South Highway 125 on Monkey Island, officiated by Reverend Kim Hays. Kathy was deeply involved in the Toys and Clothes for Kids Project, a program to benefit needy children in Delaware County. In lieu of flower arrangements, the family suggests contributions to the program. Donations may be sent c/o Cari Williams, 57200 East Highway 125, Box 3561, Monkey Island, OK 74331.
