Juanita Potts

June 17, 1922 — January 15, 2015

Juanita Nell (Threet) Potts 1922-2015 Juanita Nell (Threet) Potts (Nita), 92, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, died January 15, 2015. She was born June 17, 1922 in Waterloo, Alabama, the daughter of Ellie and Dorothy Threet, and grew up in the family home in Waterloo. Nita had one son, 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and, recently, a great-great grandchild. Nita married Mack Potts of Waterloo on August 30, 1941. While he was serving in the Air Force during World War II, she and her sister, Audrey, worked on the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Following the war, she and Mack lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, while he finished his education in Chemical Engineering at the University of Tennessee. During that time, their son, Terry, was born in 1946. Following Mack's graduation in 1948, they moved to Bartlesville, where Mack took a job as an engineer at Phillips Petroleum Company, and Nita worked as an Administrative Assistant at Cities Service Company. Phillips moved the family to Kansas City in 1956, and she worked for Sinclair until 1960, when they returned to Bartlesville. In subsequent years, they lived in Puerto Rico for 8 years, and in England for a brief time. Nita had many close personal friends in Bartlesville and other locations, loved to entertain, and was a gracious hostess. She planted and maintained a beautiful English garden, and had floral decorations throughout her home on Winding Way. She loved to play golf and bridge at the Hillcrest Country Club, and to meet there every month with the birthday club, consisting of close friends from Bartlesville. She and Mack traveled extensively throughout the world during retirement, including Europe, South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. To quote a friend, Nita "lived large." She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Bartlesville. Nita was preceded in death by her brothers, James Threet, Clyde Threet, and Robert Threet, of Florence, Alabama, and her sister Audrey Hetzel, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She is survived by her son, Terry Potts, of Weldon Spring, Missouri, and his wife, Jo, her brothers Willard and Ronnie Threet, of Florence, Alabama, and her sister, Mary Young, of Mishawaka, Indiana. Survivors also include her grandson, Joel Potts, his wife Allyssa, and their sons, Emmett and Parker, of Trabuco Canyon, CA; her granddaughter Becca, Becca's husband Merric, and their daughter, Kaia, of Redmond, Washington; and her granddaughter Susan, Susan's daughter, Allie, and great-great-granddaughter, Tatum, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 1 p.m., at the Arnold Moore Funeral Home Chapel, 710 S. Dewey, Bartlesville, Oklahoma (918-336-5225). Online condolences may be offered at www.honoringmemories.com In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any contributions be made in Nita's honor to your favorite charity.
