Kathie Turner passed from life to light Saturday, June 1, 2013. Kathie Jean Huggard was born to Arthur and Evelyn Joy (Washecheck) Huggard on November 14, 1946 at Piedmont, Oklahoma. Kathie was the third child of seven children. Kathie attended Piedmont Public Schools where she graduated as Valedictorian of her class of 1964. Upon graduation Kathie attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education. Kathie moved to Nowata, Oklahoma to teach High School Home Economics after University. Here she met William Donald "Don" Turner. They were married in Nowata on June 12, 1970. Don worked in the family business, Turner Brothers Meats while Kathie and he made their home in Nowata for their two daughters; Michelle Lea and Angela Kay, both of whom have followed their Mother's profession of teaching. Kathie was a member of Nowata First Baptist Church where she taught Third Grade Sunday School and directed Vacation Bible School for many years. Kathie was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Leonard Huggard; her paternal grandparents Herbert "Happy" and Beulah (Leonard) Huggard; her maternal grandparents Ed and Hazel (Couch) Washecheck. Kathie leaves her husband Don of the home; daughter Michelle and grandson Eli of The Colony, Texas; and daughter Angela Kay and granddaughter Josie of Nowata, Oklahoma. Kathie is also survived by her Mother, Evelyn Henderson of Nowata. Kathie's siblings also survive; Jerry Arthur Huggard of Pensacola, Florida; Virginia Kay Hopp of Carthage, Missouri; Susan Della Henderson of Issaquah, Washington; Eddie Huggard of Rochester, Minnisota; Annette Gunter of Norman, Oklahoma, and Jimmie Allen Huggard of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Many nieces and nephews survive in several states. Kathie was an excellent cook, seamstress, and crafter who completed all tasks with attention and care to detail. Because of Kathie, Don, Michelle, Angela, Josie, and Eli have had a living example of what love looks like. Because of Kathie, every one of Michelle and Angela's friends were welcome in the Turner home where they knew they would be well fed. Because of Kathie's patience, 25 years worth of students learned to cook and sew. They knew that they were loved and accepted in her classrooms. Because of Kathie, countless kids at First Baptist Church learned their memory verses in Sunday school to earn their train cars. Because of Kathie, patrons of the Bliss Restaurant and the residents of Autumn Place Apartments benefited from her organization, her servant's heart, and her kind smiles. Because of Kathie's positive attitude and strong faith, hospital staff, doctors, and nurses have been amazed, encouraged, and inspired over the last nine months of her life. Because of Kathie, every person who has ever crossed her path has been blessed. Funeral services for Kathie are 4:00 p.m., Monday, June 3, 2013 at the first Baptist Church in Nowata with Brother Wayne Clayton officiating. Interment will follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery.
