Laverne Acuff

LaVerne June Mitchell Acuff, age 90 of Grove, died Monday October 19, 2009. LaVerne was born in Collinsville, OK on June 15, 1919 the daughter of Roy and Sallie (Conway) Hurn. She was united in marriage to Walter T. Mitchell and together they raised one daughter Darla Mitchell. Years after Walter's passing she was re-married to Norbert Acuff. LaVerne was an athlete who loved to golf, hunt, and go deep sea fishing. She golfed until she was 77 years old. She was also an excellent cook and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Golf Crest Country Club and the Cleora United Methodist Church. Laverne is survived by her daughter Darla Mitchell of Calgary Alberta, Canada, two grandchildren Kristen Dion and Trevor Engstrom, and one sister Sue Hurn of Afton. She is preceded in death by her husbands, parents, sister Orpha Donaghue, and brother Jerald Hurn. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday October 21, 2009. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday October 22, 20009 at Luginbuel Funeral Chapel with Pastor Rich Brasher officiating. Services are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home.
