Laverne Barber

Laverne Barber, 83-year-old Tahlequah resident, formerly of Tulsa, passed away at Go Ye Village Nursing Center in Tahlequah May 30, 2020. She was born September 6, 1936 in Ellsworth, Oklahoma to Bert E. Goodman and Ira Leona McAfee Goodman. She attended Tulsa Schools.

Laverne married Richard Eugene Morris on December 22, 1952 in Tulsa. They made their home in Tulsa and brought three beautiful daughters into this life. Laverne worked hard waiting tables in various places early in her life progressing to become a valued employee at The Louisiane Restaurant in downtown Tulsa. She and Richard divorced in 1965.

Laverne and the girls moved to Amarillo, Texas where she worked as a waitress at the Big Texan Steak House. She quickly moved up to running payroll and keeping books for the owner, including those of other restaurants he owned.  After a few years they moved back to Tulsa. There she continued to develop her office skills at various locations.

She married Frank L. Barber in Tulsa on September 14,1971. They made their home in Vinita where Frank’s Heat and Air was established. Before long they opened a Coney Island on Main Street in Vinita in 1973. They moved back to Tulsa and Laverne started working on her associate degree and landed a job with American Airlines. She attended night school at the University of Tulsa earning a Bachelor of Accounting Degree. This was a significant highlight in her life.  She eventually rose to management positions within the airline but the ability to travel was the best part. She loved traveling and taking family with her. She took her children and grandchildren to many locations in the United States and the World. Laverne will be missed by all who knew her.

Preceding Mrs. Barber in death are her parents, Bert and Leona Goodman; daughter, Leah Brammer; granddaughter, April Russell; and siblings, Byron Lyles Goodman, John Goodman, Frank Goodman, Wendel Goodman, Mary Frances Goodman and Erma Dobbs.

Survivors include two daughters, Patty McLaughlin, of Oklahoma City, Marsha Faulkner and husband Joe, of Nowata, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Shannon Banki,, Seth Chancy, Joey Faulkner, Brandi Gragg, Jennifer Duncan, Sarah Carson, David Faulkner, Sarah Dobrick; 14 great grandchildren; siblings, Bert Goodman Jr., Erick Goodman, Stuart Goodman, Sandra Levins; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Graveside services for Laverne Barber will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Rose Hill Cemetery, 4161 Admiral Place, Tulsa, Ok., 74115.
